Happy October, readers! Remember when I said last week that I was going to be making some changes in my life? Well, today is the start! When you want to make a change, personally, I find it easier to start on the first of the month so that I can better keep track of how things have changed. What about you? To help keep myself accountable with these changes, I also decided that I would include all of you in on my plans. I also hope that you share some of your October goals in the comments after this post. But before we get there, let me tell you about the plan.
Self: My older brother is getting married next month and I just so happen to be in the wedding party (on his side! Interesting, right?). I recently got my dress, and though, the dress looks good, I think it could look GREAT. So, my personal goal is lose a bit of weight—approximately 10 pounds.
If you have read some of my earlier blog posts, you know that I have the Lapband. I decided to get the Lapband in order to help me to lose weight and though it has done some of the work for me (losing 60lbs is nothing to sneeze at!), I have been slacking and therefore have been stuck at the same weight for a few months. I’ve decided to kick things back into gears.
The Plan: My plan is to conduct the 5-Day Pouch Test, which is where I change my eating habits in order to get back to basics, essentially. This is a diet, to put it in a nutshell. The diet won’t stop there though; I am determined to continue eating right throughout the entire month of October. In addition, I will drink at least 72oz of water a day instead of what I usually drink, which is a lot for someone who primarily drinks soda and Kool-Aid. Last but not least, I have also begun a couple of exercise challenges that I will perform every morning (sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, squats, and planks). I’ve attempted these challenges previously, but about a week and a half in, I found some reason to quit. Hopefully that won’t happen this time.
The Obstacle: ICE CREAM. If you’ve followed me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, you’ll notice a little bit of a pattern. When I do post pictures, they often involve ice cream. I’m slightly obsessed with this delectable desert, so letting it go is not going to be easy, but I can do it. There will only be one exception to my no ice cream rule and that is on my birthday.
Life: As of late, my life has been more hectic than usual. Between being a student, internship, family, and blogging I have to be more organized. Organization has to become more of a priority if I plan to get everything that needs to be done, done and still have time to relax. So, how am I going to accomplish this? To-do lists of course! If you don’t have one of your own to help keep yourself organized, below you can find one that I created to help myself not too long ago.
In addition to my handy-dandy to-do list, I also have a brand new planner that my mother gave me as an early birthday gift. Nice right? Hopefully between these two things, I’ll be able to keep up with everything.
The Obstacle: PROCRASTINATION. I’m sure that you have seen my couple, few blog posts on how I am a procrastinator, which certainly does get in the way. This will be my biggest obstacle with keeping my life organized. I have to push past the want and desire to slack-off in order to get things done.
Blog: If you’re a returning visitor, and I hope that you are, you have probably noticed that I have been slacking a lot in regards to keeping up with posting. My hope is that with keeping myself more organized that I will also be able to keep up with a blog schedule. Revisiting the SURVEY I asked readers to take previously (which is still open for your responses), you all want me to post 3 times a week, which is my goal for October.
The Obstacle: TIME. As I mentioned previously, time is not on my side. There is a lot going on, so I need to find time to actually write. Not to mention my second obstacle, MOTIVATION. Sometimes it’s hard to get motivated despite how much I love to blog. Also, I often find myself feeling a bit discouraged when blog posts don’t pan out the way that I hope that they would. One thing that I have to continue to remind myself, however, is the reason that I blog is to help others and for myself as well.
When you set goals for yourself, in my opinion, it’s good to give yourself an incentive to complete them—especially when goals appear to be impossible to reach. If you’re feeling low and as if you’re not going to reach your goal, remind yourself that if you complete your goals, you get something out of it! In my case, there is a lovely watch that I’ve wanted to get my hands on for a while. My reward for completing my goals is the watch.
What are you goals for October?
What plans do you have put in place to reach your goals and what reward(s) will you give yourself when you’ve accomplished your task?
