Would You Kill a Family Member to Survive?
Warning: May contain spoilers
From Dusk Till Dawn is a 1996 horror, action, thriller movie that was written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez. It stars George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Ernest Lui. You’re probably wondering what that has to do with killing a family member to survive, so let’s get down to it.
The Backstory:
Seth Gecko (Clooney) has been broken out of jail by his brother Richie Gecko (Tarantino) and they are now on the run from the FBI and Texas police after robbing a bank and killing several people.
The brothers stop at a motel on their way to Mexico where one of their contacts has secured a safe house for them. Jacob (Keitel), Kate (Lewis) and Scott (Liu) are kidnaped by the brothers who force them to drive them to Mexico in the family’s RV. Once in Mexico, they stop at a strip club called the “Titty Twister” (I didn’t name it) and it’s all downhill from there.
This is when it gets Weird:
Richie is turned into a vampire (watch the movie to find out how) and when other surviving members go to kill him, Seth stops them because it’s still his brother. It is then left up to Seth to decide if he wants to kill his brother or not. His options have to be weighed quickly, but in the end he decides that this creature is no longer his brother and shoots him dead.
This predicament again comes about when Jacob is bitten; though before he turns, he orders and makes his children and Seth promise to kill him. Seth is in agreement, but it takes some convincing when it comes to his children. In the end, the deed is done and they go on fighting the evil bloodsuckers.
What Would you Do?:
The question still remains, what would you do if you found yourself in such a situation? Would you argue that your loved one is “still them” or would you kill them before they could kill you?
Not that I can foresee this ever happening to me in the near future or anything, but personally I would probably kill them before they could kill me. Now before you go calling me “heartless” and “cold” let’s think about this for a second.
Your family member has just been turned into a vampire or maybe even a zombie or werewolf or some other deadly creature and they are hell-bent on killing you. Does that sound like your loved one to you? I don’t think so. So really, do you think that in while in their proper state of mind they would want you to die or would they want you to fight and continue to live life? Or continue trying to live depending on the circumstances at hand, I mean if you’re faced with a zombie apocalypse or some virus getting out that turns people into running zombies it’s a lot more trying than anything else.
I think my family would want me to keep fighting, damn it and fight I would (especially if you gave me a shotgun, even better a talking shotgun…sorry, been playing too much Boarderlands 2 lately)!
Anyway, long story short, I’d have to kill my loved one(s) and keep trying to survive; though, it’d be my hope that they would be smart enough not to get bitten or attacked in the first place so that we could totally kick some vampire/zombie/werewolf/mutant/whatever butt as a family.
Let’s Ramble:
What would you do in the situation where your family was turned into some horrible creature that was trying to kill you? Be honest!
Oh, P.S.! From Dusk Till Dawn is a great movie that I would suggest to the not-so-squeamish and do note that this is NOT a movie for the kids!

Very interestion question and review. I think at the end of the day, its all about survival. First I will see if its possible to save the family member and if yes then will try to do something about it. If not then we really do not have any choice.

In the scenario I was discussing there was no saving them. But I would agree, if there was a way to save them then I would certainly try, but if not, I’m going to try to survive.
Oh my, what a horrific story to behold. If or just in mine case/shoes, I wouldn’t do it at all…. its such a terrifyin/scary thought … to get honest alon with ya here or thar. I wouldn’t watch the film even, to get serious here too…

Naiwen, I honestly don’t really know what you’re saying here. I think you’re saying that you wouldn’t do it, but again, not sure. Your sentences are really choppy and hard to follow unfortunately. :-/
thanks so much for stopping by. I saw that movie and it freaked me out…of course hubby LOVED it.

Haha, according to my husband I kept giving the television a very odd look when I watched it. I thought it was good though and I plan to see the second and third one. I heard the ones that come after that are pretty bad.
That is a toughie.
I know that I would probably have the balls to kill given that situation, but I think it would be very VERY difficult. As I’m afraid of dying painfully, however, I probably would. It wouldn’t be an easy choice but it would be a fight or flight response – something that I would probably cry/grieve about almost immediately after. I do know my parents in particular would die for me, however, but if it was my entire family and there’s virtually no way out, I think I would have to bite the bullet and die because what’s life without family?
PS. I watched this movie and thought it was a bit strange lol. It starts off as a semi-gangster movie and then all of a sudden, there are vampires and fantasy creatures. I liked it, but yeah – was not expecting it to turn out like that. xD
I was talking to my husband more about this subject and when I told him that I would kill him in the situation, he actually praised me, lol. He then went on to tell me if he was a vampire or werewolf he would try to turn me and I told him he wouldn’t have the chance. I agree with you though, if it’s the whole family, I don’t think I’d be able to handle that.
Haha, yeah, it’s a very odd movie. It was my first time watching it actually and it confused me greatly at first, but I determined I enjoyed it after a lot of thought.
