Surviving the Graduation Ceremony
You’ve survived finals week and now, for a good portion of students, the day has finally arrived. After years of school work, individual and group projects, your time has finally arrived. You meet up with friends that you fear that you’re never going to see again; though, with the invention of Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social networking sites, you’ll be just fine when it comes to staying connected. Your heart becomes heavy and you start to tear up at the thought of leaving a place that just a few weeks ago you wanted to run far away from. My heart was beginning to pound rhythmically against my chest as my shoes tapped gently against the ground below and my anxiety level began to rise. My eyes darted around the unfamiliar room as I tried to decide which way to go. They landed on the front desk where a line where people waited with their furry family members to be checked into the hotel. After being pointed in the right direction, I smiled at my husband and made my way toward the elevators. My breath caught as I realized, I was at my first blogging event. Continue reading →

Is Internet Drama Avoidable?
Have you ever been a part of a forum community? I sure have. Previously I hosted interviews with creators/administrators of forums to ask what makes their community special or family-like. Both Midnight Lotus owner, Reina, and Pluvia Village owner, Snobothehobo pointed out that their communities were what made their sites special. They emphasized that their communities were about friendship, bringing people together and general closeness. What about the other side of a forum community? It can’t always be about lemon drops and gumdrops*, hugs and friendships can it? Continue reading →
