Surviving the Graduation Ceremony

You’ve survived finals week and now, for a good portion of students, the day has finally arrived. After years of school work, individual and group projects, your time has finally arrived. You meet up with friends that you fear that you’re never going to see again; though, with the invention of Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social networking sites, you’ll be just fine when it comes to staying connected. Your heart becomes heavy and you start to tear up at the thought of leaving a place that just a few weeks ago you wanted to run far away from. If you haven’t guessed it yet, I am indeed talking about graduation. That time of year when you put on the cap and gown and sit through a ceremony that is just a little too long. Continue reading

The Benefits of Being Friendly

Raise your hand if you stop to get coffee in the morning before you go to work or school. Or maybe you got to a specific place to get breakfast or lunch. If you are raising your hand, think about the place you go. Do you go to the same place every day? If you do go to the same place, say Starbucks for example, is there a specific location that you go? I’m willing to bet it has something to do with the friendly atmosphere. Did you know that being friendly can go a long way not just in terms of getting repeat customers, but also in life itself? From in Your Face to Invisable: Taking a Look at Invisalign

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Crooked teeth and a hereditary gap. In my family, these had been passed down for more generations than could be counted. They had to be corrected. In my case, an uncomfortable wire wrapped around the top row of teeth was the “correction,” and it made speech difficult. I can still remember the drool that dripped every time even a single syllable was muttered. Unfortunately, when I was in the third grade, my only option for straightening my teeth or closing gaps were metal wiring that cut at my gums, a rather uncomfortable option. This seems to have been the case for many people I know. Thankfully, today, there are more options out there to help correct teeth-related problems. Most notably, one such option I learned more about recently seems rather amazing. This product is Invisalign. Continue reading

Surviving Finals Week: The Professor Edition

Blood-shot eyes read over another paper on the same subject as the last. You pen scribbles notes here and finally you put a single letter on the last page before adding it to the pile of already graded items. The stack of yet-to-be graded items does not appear as though it has gotten any smaller, and in fact you find yourself wondering to yourself if it has actually grown in size. You put down your pen for the first time in what seems to be days to massage your aching hand. You wonder what you got yourself into, why were you in such anguish. Then you remember it’s finals week for the professors. Continue reading

Surviving Finals Week

Bloodshot eyes stare blankly at the open Word document waiting patiently for the paper to magically write itself. The curser blinks once, then twice and then a third time, but nothing appears. A soft sigh leaves parted lips as the chair leans backwards making a soft creaking sound in protest. The frustration begins to build and then panic when you realize that your time to finish this project is slowly slipping away. A numbing feeling takes over your brain and the sudden urge to cry overtakes you. What has caused this tremendous amount of stress and anxiety? Only one thing could cripple even the most academic of students…Finals Week. Continue reading
