Aurora ‘Dark Knight’ Shooting
If you’ve been following me on Twitter or Facebook, you’re probably aware that last night I attended the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises. Normally when I discuss movies, I discuss what happened in the movie and how it relates to family and/or relationships; however, that’s not what I want to discuss today. A few moments ago I came across an article detailing the horrific events that happened in Aurora, Colorado at another midnight showing of the movie. Apparently, approximately 20 to 30 minutes into the movie, a lone gunman—after setting off some sort canister of gas—began randomly shoot people within the theater. At this time, they are saying that there are twelve dead and at least 50 injured. The suspect, James Holmes, has been arrested and taken into custody. Continue reading →

Abuse in the Family
Before I discuss my vacation, there’s another topic I just have to touch on. There have been a few comments that I have received since opening my blog that I have, shamefully, ignored parts of what was being said because it made me highly uncomfortable. I was going to continue going on my merry little way putting them in the back of my brain, but I just cannot do it. I’m Back!
As many of you have probably noticed, I pretty much completely disappeared for a week. I was going to post about being gone here; however, there were some circumstances that prevented me from doing that and for that, I apologize. Just to catch you up a bit, I went away on a family vacation down to Florida and when I say “family vacation” I mean my immediate family (my husband, mom, brother, and my brother’s girlfriend) along with my husband’s immediate family (his mom, dad, niece, and nephew). That’s right; you’ve counted correctly, nine of us in total and yes there are some interesting stories I have to tell you. So, stay tuned because there is a lot to talk about!
P.S. My posts may be a bit sporadic while I work on getting back into the groove of things, so please bear with me!

The Power of Hugs
You never really know how powerful a hug can be until you’re really down in the dumps about something. A simple hug from someone can really brighten up your day and relieve stress and tension. While in my Psychology of Family Systems course last semester, we read a book called The Passionate Marriage by Dr. David Schnarch who presented a technique called “hugging until relaxed.” It’s a really nice relaxation technique that I wanted to share all of you and see if it has helped any of you to decrease your stress and/or anxiety.
